Blue Oak School

McCracken & Woodman is proud to have been part of the team charged with the revitalization of the Blue Oak School campus. The project comprised the renovation of a 100-year old schoolhouse integrated with new construction for a multi-purpose facility, including library and administrative offices. The client made it clear that they wanted a safe, non-toxic educational facility that reflects the school’s commitment to the community and to environmental sustainability.

The System

Working closely with the architect, McCracken & Woodman designed a geothermal ground source heat pump HVAC system to provide heating, ventilating, and air conditioning to the entire facility. This project represents the first use of a geothermal system in an educational setting in the state of California. Blue Oak School opened its doors in the Fall of 2002. In 2003 the School received a Napa County Landmarks Preservation Action Committee Merit Award.
